This is a time for action from the country, action from local communities and yes, action from individual citizens. We all have a role to play in the pandemic. Once we have accepted that the situation is bad we can focus on all the things people are doing to make it better. The government will have a large role to play, as will the private and public sector, but so do you.

Whatever your skill or passion, apply it. If you’re a comedian, make us laugh. An artist, bring joy to the world. A teacher, teach. Have a skill with sewing? Make masks. Have free time? Volunteer to be a contact tracer for your local public health department or deliver food to those in need or tutor schoolkids remotely. Good at communications? Pair up with a scientist or public health organization to help them get a message out.
